Practices

When do teams practice?

The club holds scheduled practices for all teams. This helps us maximize the practice time and allows teams to scrimmage against each other. Younger teams benefit from playing older teams, and everyone gets a variety of opponents to practice against.
Practice schedules are released several weeks before the start of the season via email or BAND notification.

Where are practices held?

All practices take place at the Network Elite gym located at 805 N Harlem Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD.

WHAT IS THE FOCUS OF Network Elite PRACTICES?

Our coaches must spend at least half of each practice developing player skills, including ball-handling, shooting, off-the-ball movement, passing, and defensive principles. Network Elite strongly supports positionless basketball, aiming for all players to be skilled in every aspect of the game. The focus is on learning how to play, not just learning plays. Coaches also dedicate practice time to teaching the fundamentals of man-to-man defense, emphasizing the importance of strong half-court defense.

Is practice mandatory?

Regular practice attendance is highly encouraged to ensure player development. Consistent attendance is important for maintaining team dynamics and improving skills.

What should a player do if they are unable to attend practice?

If a player can’t attend practice, they should let their coach know as soon as possible.

How are families notified if practice is cancelled?

If practice is cancelled for any reason, the league will make every effort to notify parents as soon as possible.  Please keep an eye on your email, the BAND app and our social media for more information.

Tournaments

Where are tournaments located?

Tournament weekends are planned and communicated as early as possible before the season begins.

Can the tournament schedule change?

Yes, the tournament schedule can change due to factors such as a lack of teams in a specific age division, changes in the tournament location by the organizer, or insufficient competition available. However, such changes are not common. We do our best to inform you of any adjustments as soon as possible so you can plan accordingly.

When will the weekend's tournament schedule Be released?

Tournament schedules are typically released on Monday or Tuesday before the tournament weekend.  We will share the schedule with you as soon as it becomes available.

the tournament is scheduled for Friday, SAturday and Sunday.  Will we play Friday night?

When playing locally in the Sioux Falls area, we expect that we will play on Friday night.
When traveling out of town, we aim to schedule games only on Saturdays and Sundays. However, sometimes the tournament schedule may not allow for this. We recognize that this may require additional time and possibly taking time off work. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility.

What additional costs should parents expect?

Parents should anticipate additional costs, including their own travel expenses and hotel accommodations, if needed. Most tournaments also require additional spectator entry fees.

Does Network Elite arrange room blocks for hotel stays?

Network Elite does not arrange room blocks for hotel stays for all teams. We suggest appointing someone to coordinate this so the team can stay at the same hotel. It’s a great way for team bonding and spending quality time together off the court.

How early should we arrive for our game(s) on a tournament weekend?

It is best practice to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to game time.  If the tournament gets ahead of schedule, they can and will start games earlier than the scheduled time.

if a player will not be able to attend a tournament, what do we need to do?

If a player cannot attend a tournament, please notify the coach as soon as possible. This helps ensure we have enough players for the weekend.
